"Madonna Is the Queen Because She's Been In Music 30+ Years"

She's more than twice the age of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, but that doesn't mean Cher can't create a lot of noise in the music world.

On Wednesday it was revealed the 67-year-old singer has seen her highest-charting solo album ever on the Billboard 200 with her new release.

Closer To the Truth debuted on September 24 to a whirlwind of clever publicity. In its first week, 63,000 copies were sold.

The album landed at number three after only seven days on the shelves.

Her megahit albums Believe (1999) and The Very Best Of Cher (2003) debuted lower at number four.

The one and only time she did better than Closer To The Truth was when she paired up with husband Sonny Bono in 1965 for Look At Us which included the hit single I Got You Babe.

This latest success was achieved by a series of publicity stunts that garnered worldwide attention.

In June she belted out her new single Woman's World on The Voice to millions of viewers (which went on to become Cher's eighth number one hit on the dance club and play songs chart in August).

She first raised eyebrows however when on September 17 she criticized Miley Cyrus' VMA performance by telling USA Today, 'I'm not old-fashioned. She could have come out naked, and if she'd just rocked the house, I would have said, 'You go, girl.' It just wasn't done well.'

The Heart Of Stone singer then unleashed her biggest insult on the former Hannah Montana star: 'She can't dance, her body looked like hell, the song wasn't great, one cheek was hanging out.'

She ended with, 'And, chick, don't stick out your tongue if it's coated.'

The Mermaids actress created hoopla on September 22 when she complained to the Sunday Times that it was not easy for her to see her daughter Chastity turn into male Chaz. 'It's a strange thing for a mother to go through,' she confessed.

Then the antics started.

On September 23 Cher arrived to her Today show appearance on a New York City police motorcycle.

On September 24 she walked into David Letterman's late night show with a blonde wig on. But when she dropped onto the set (on wires no less) she was wearing a black wig.

She then stayed on the show all night, bumping off scheduled guest Lizzy Caplan. During her hour with Dave she also performed her single I Hope You Find It.

On Sept 26 the diva created memories when she mingled with drag queens (and Perez Hilton) at her album release party at nightclub Tao in New York City.

That's quite a lot of work for a senior citizen.

Even if she has a big mouth and a lot of guts, the Malibu resident does get insecure.

She has admitted to worrying about failure before launching Closer To The Truth even though she already has a Grammy and 100 million album sales under her belt (not to mention an Oscar, an Emmy and three Golden Globes).

'Everyone judges you on what you just did,' she said.

'Right before I walked out there [on The Voice], I told my mom, "I'm so sweating it. I'm a has-been. My career is nothing." It's my first time out of the box in 12 years, in front of 20 million people. If it had been horrible, they would have tarred and feathered my whole life with that brush. My career would have ended on such a sad note.

'I keep coming back because I have no place else to go. What else would I do? I love to sing.'
