Musicians who dissed McDonna

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE: As of 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, neither Madonna nor anyone in her camp had appeared to respond publicly to Kid Rock's criticism of her.
Messages left with Liz Rosenberg, Madonna's publicist, and Silivio "Tony" Ciccone, her father, weren't immediately returned.

A woman who answered the phone at the business Wednesday afternoon gave a "no comment" about the matter and added that Silivio Ciccone likely wouldn't comment either.

DETROIT, MI - Kid Rock didn't hold back Wednesday morning on CNBC's "Squawk Box" when he heard Madonna's name mentioned as a musician that's a supporter of the Motor City.

"Madonna ain't done nothing for Detroit!" said Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie.

Madonna, whose real name is Madonna Louise Ciccone, was born in Bay City, Mich. and grew up in the Metro Detroit suburbs of Pontiac and Avon Township (now Rochester Hills).

She's claimed Detroit roots in the past, but hasn't appeared active in much of anything pertaining to southeast Michigan for several years.

Madonna did, however, perform a concert last November at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit where she claimed the city is "making a comeback."

"This place made me who I am - a hard working girl," she told the crowd. "Detroit is making a comeback, I can feel it in my bones.

"We're making a comeback mother(bleepers), so everybody better watch out."

Kid Rock certainly has done his part to help Detroit prosper. For more about his charitable efforts, check out a story I did about his generosity and Detroit pride that ran a few months ago.

Kid Rock appeared on CNBC's "Squawk Box" to talk about doing business in Detroit, owning a home in the city, giving back to the city, and what he thinks the area will be like in the future.

This Romeo, Mich. native mentioned he spent Tuesday night at his home in Detroit, one of two he has in the metro area. The other home is in the suburb of Clarkston in Oakland County.

"There’s no place on earth, no city with more style than Detroit city," Kid Rock told the CNBC crew. "That’s a fact. You got a blank canvas here. There’s a real sense of community here.”

Local billionaire Dan Gilbert, Quicken Loans chairman and founder, was a guest host on the show.

There’s a reason why Madonna skimmed over why she and Michael Jackson fell off years ago during her VMA tribute: She used to trash him in the press.

While neither has spoken of each other in years, Dateline recently interviewed the King of Pop’s longtime friend Rabbi Shmuley Boteach about the taped conversations he recorded with Jackson – which included his thoughts on Madonna.

As you can see the from the posted video clip, “nasty witch” doesn’t suggest Mike was all that fond of her.

More details from the Rabbi’s book have come forward and Michael reportedly claimed that Madonna was in love with him.

He said: ”I think she was sincerely in love with me and I was not in love with her. She did a lot of crazy things. I knew we had nothing in common.”

With respect to the King, that sounds about as nutty as the idea of Madonna bringing Michael into a strip club.

Nevertheless he didn’t think she was his type, adding: “She is not sexy at all. I think sexy comes from the heart in the way you present yourself.”

If this video were shot in the late 1980s a dance off between angry Michael Jackson and Madonna fans might have ensued.

If released in the early to mid 1990s I don’t doubt that fans of both Mike and Madge would be on the chat lines arguing back-and-forth.

But in 2009 where Michael Jackson is dead and Madonna just paid tribute to him, I’m sure most are willing to look at comments made eight or so years ago and let bygones be bygones.
